Empowering Women and Girls for a Brighter Future.
Project Highlight
This month we had National Victims & Survivors of Crime Week from May 11 - 17. In partnership with Justice Canada, we were able to create a community art piece that told the narrative of four women who had been impacted by crime within their communities across BC’s Interior.
This project:
Informed the community of challenges women face, whether it is workplace violence, gender based violence, intimate partner violence, human trafficking or other injustices against women.
Launched our Human Rights Café series in partnership with Okanagan Thompson Legal Clinic & TNRD. Our café runs twice a month; check out the library schedule to learn when.
Designed a community art piece that will continue to grow over time, and we hope to be able to exhibit it at the Kamloops Art Gallery. This piece seeks to reduce stigma, shame and bridge the community, letting women know that it is okay to speak up and speak out if they are ready.
Launched our SHE Speaks: Unmuted Podcast. Set to debut in June 2025.
Visit our project website to learn more about the week and the impact of the project.
Our Impact |
Our Programs
At the Women’s Centre, we have advocates working in the drop-in centre, as well as out in the community. Connecting and supporting women, girls and femme-identifying individuals who express a need for social support.
Our agency focuses on comprehensive wrap-around support, resource navigation, employment coaching and economic education. At our core we prioritize a space that bridges community, connection, dialogue, and opportunities to learn how to self-advocate for oneself and for the community we are a part of.
Let’s connect, and see how we can bridge community - We are so excited to meet you!
Western Canada Women’s Foundation
The Western Canada Women’s Foundation is a dynamic coalition uniting thought leaders, stakeholders, researchers, workers, community members, and survivors to address issues impacting women across BC’s Interior. Our mission is to foster advocacy, inform policy, and promote equity through collaboration and research. As a trusted voice, we act as a key advisory body for the government on policy development, funding decisions, and critical issues affecting women in the western region. Through knowledge sharing and collaboration, we can better address the gaps that are impacting our communities.
